Summer Goals

With Summer just around the corner, there are a number of routes educators can take in terms of what they will be doing. Here is my advice on how we as educators should take our summer or some options you should consider:

1) Take some time for yourself. Through the entire year you spend days and nights on constant sensory overload in our journey to educate our leaders of tomorrow. There is no reason we shouldn't take some time and catch up on some rest, take a vacation, or sit at home and relax in front of the television.

2) Continue your education. Being a professional in the world of education it is paramount that we not only get some time to ourselves but make ourselves better academically. Taking a course at a university and attending a convention or seminar are just a couple of options to consider but the idea of making yourself a better teacher should be on the list.

3) The third goal that I am putting on the list has to do with fitness. I wrote a blog earlier in the year about how I think it is irresponsible of us as educators to expect our students to be at their best physically so they can perform well academically when you see a lot of teachers overweight and exhausted throughout the day. Poor nutrition choices with the combination of inactivity creates the aura of hypocrisy. I am a big believer that teachers need to start making their fitness and personal well being a top priority when it comes to their job. You will feel less stressed and more capable to keep up with the children unlike in years past.

Feel free to post a comment to give any other goals teachers should have this summer. Until next time!
